HMH Bearing Witness - November 2016

WHAT I T MEANS TO BE A CRISTO REY INTERN

Khyarra Chua Quiet, friendly, and shy, high school sophomore Khyarra Chua has two goals for her HMH internship – “working hard and making my supervisor proud.” An aspiring architect who finds joy in interacting with people, Khyarra worked in retail and as a receptionist before applying for and winning her internship. Describing herself as a quick learner with commitment to any task before her, Khyarra enjoys Asian cuisine, art, movies, and playing basketball when she’s not focused on her school assignments. Tiera Johnson Ninth grader Tiera Johnson is looking forward to the personal growth that can be achieved from the HMH internship program. “I want to be known as a scholar who does everything she’s asked,” says Tiera. After graduation from high school, Tiera looks forward to a pre-med program in college with the ultimate goal of a career as a plastic surgeon. Describing herself as open-minded, intelligent and humorous, Tiera enjoys talking to people, and helping others as a leader in the community. With a sensitivity for the feelings of others, Tiera believes her outspoken nature will help her in becoming an “advocate for the world” following her personal motto, “If there is ever something you need, I am there.” Maritza Ledesma Excited about her return to the Holocaust Museum Houston internship program, Maritza Ledesma is looking forward to learning more about HMH. Maritza worked as a receptionist before landing her first internship and brings strong organizational skills and a desire to “get the job done right” to her new assignment. She credits her internship experience for nurturing her public speaking skills and describes herself as respectful and attentive. After graduation, Maritza looks forward to studying biology in college with an eye toward dental school and eventually owning her own dental clinic. When she’s not working hard in school, Maritza finds stress relief on the tennis court.
